The REM Method

Sing, listen and adjust.

You learn to sing by singing. Improvisation starts with your own voice, listening makes each action audible and repetition gradually builds pitch accuracy and ease.

The principle

Your perception guides the learning.

Rem accompanies you on piano while you improvise two simple phrases. You begin with your sound, rhythm and way of singing before trying to reproduce another singer’s style.

A microphone, headphones, recording or rehearsal-room monitors let you hear your voice directly. Rem then suggests one precise change and you sing again to hear its effect.

The more you sing, listen and adjust, the more familiar and intentional your voice becomes.
The learning loop

Improvise, listen, adjust, repeat.

This loop repeats throughout the lesson. Exercises stay short, and each new attempt helps you integrate the change.

01

Improvise

Start with two simple phrases and your own voice while Rem accompanies you on piano.

02

Listen back

Hear your voice through headphones, a recording or the monitors in the rehearsal room.

03

Adjust

Rem helps you change one element: pitch, breath, tension, register, rhythm or tone.

04

Repeat

Repeat until the movement feels more familiar, then use it in a song or creative project.

Vocal exploration with Rem Sari
Why improvise?

Start with your voice, not an imitation.

A familiar song already brings a melody, lyrics and the original singer’s voice. Improvisation removes that model: two phrases are enough to explore freely with Rem on piano.

This starting point reveals what feels natural today. You can then use the same listening in a song, vocal technique or personal project.
