SINGING · PRACTICAL GUIDE

Learning to sing in tune as a beginner

Listen to a note, try a short phrase and compare your attempts: a starting point for adults working on pitch.

Explore Rem’s teaching approach

Start with a manageable phrase

You do not need to begin with a whole song. A short phrase lets you listen to what happens without watching the lyrics, rhythm and every note at once.

In the lesson, Rem accompanies you at the piano. Start with the two short phrases he suggests, or a passage from a song you want to work on. The starting point is adapted to your voice.

Listen, try, then compare

Listen to the piano reference, sing your phrase, then try again. The first attempt helps you notice what needs attention; it does not have to be perfect.

Choose one thing: the start of the phrase, a note that escapes you, or an ending you find hard to sustain. Rem suggests a fitting exercise, then you return to the same passage and compare.

A difficult note is about more than singing louder

If a passage feels blocked, explain what you hear and feel. The lesson can explore pitch, breath or register transitions according to your needs.

Rather than collecting instructions, keep one concrete reference to try. At the next lesson, you can explain what helped and what remains difficult.

Starting as an adult, without music theory

You can come without previous lessons or music theory. An individual lesson lets you try without singing in front of a group, with guidance suited to your experience.

There is no identical timetable for every voice. You listen to your attempts and choose the next step together. The first lesson lasts 60 minutes, costs €50 and takes place in Ixelles near ULB, with no compulsory package.
